How are CS2 team rankings calculated?

There is no single official world ranking for CS2 teams. HLTV publishes the most widely cited list, Valve maintains its own Regional Standings (used for Major qualification), and a handful of analytics sites publish their own variants. They mostly agree at the top of the table but can diverge in the middle of the pack.

What goes into the points?

Wins against highly ranked opponents earn more points than wins against lower-ranked teams. LAN events count for more than online matches. Recent results count for more than older results — a system called "decay" makes points fade over months, so a team can't coast on an old Major win forever.

Roster changes also affect ranking: when more than a set fraction of a roster changes, points are typically reduced because the team that earned them no longer fully exists.

Why rankings shift week-to-week

Most ranking systems update weekly (Mondays) and react to whatever happened over the previous week. A single deep run at a top-tier event can move a team several places. The list on the home page is synced once daily from csapi.de.
